
The Engineering Technical Services department (ETS) provides technical support services for one of the most technologically advanced fleet of aircraft in the world. Its primary objective is to make sure the fleet continues to operate at all times with the highest level of safety, reliability, cost effectiveness and passenger comfort.
The engineers and technical staff in ETS actively engage with aircraft manufacturers and vendors to drive development of new aircraft technologies and systems.
The ETS team consists of six groups of specialists:
- Airframe systems
- Structures
- Avionics
- In-Flight Entertainment
- Cabin interiors
- Powerplant
The specific functions of ETS include:
- Initiation of modifications to improve performance and reliability of aircraft, engine and components
- Technical liaison with aircraft manufacturers, component vendors and overhaul and maintenance agencies
- Evaluation of manufacturer/vendor service bulletins/letters, all operators telexes and airworthiness directives and produce the appropriate documents such as engineering orders, special engineering work-cards, and technical notices etc
- Maintaining regular contacts and providing technical support to all engineering sections, flight operations and customer service department (in-flight services and traffic) in all matters related to aircraft, engines and components including the purchase of new equipment
- Monitoring high rate components removal and initiating follow-up action to improve system reliability
- Monitoring technical delays, daily defects, repeated defects and industry problems and advising maintenance on long term and short term solutions
- Investigating technical reasons for occurrence reports related to incidents and initiating follow-up actions as required
- Optimising and revising aircraft, engine and component maintenance requirements based on in-service experience, SB incorporation and industry problems
- Preparation of cost benefit studies on major modifications and detailed engineering orders for incorporation and approval by management
- Maintaining an engineering involvement in developments within the industry including new advancements and techniques
- Assisting Line and Base maintenance and support workshops on maintenance and AOG related issues. Providing on-site support for heavy maintenance inputs
- Software configuration and management
- Ensuring dissemination of useful technical information to maintenance
UAE GCAA Design Organisation:
Under the Authority of the UAE GCAA (Approval No EM/E/89) the Engineering Technical Services section is also authorised to carry out changes to approved design and manufacturers technical data associated with aircraft or components as specified within the approval.
EASA PART-21 Design Organisation:
The Engineering Technical Services section is also an approved EASA Part 21 Design Organisation (Approval No EASA.21J.103). This approval covers the development of data in the form of minor changes to type design, modifications, and minor repairs through a design assurance system.
The Part-21 Design Organisation is an integral part of Emirates Engineering. The Design Organisation personnel are located within ETS where they provide a technical support function for the airline in addition to their design activities.
